  • Senior Software Engineer

    Paris,

    France

    Cairn Biosciences is a biotech with headquarters in San Francisco, CA and a branch in Paris at Station F.

    Cairn Biosciences is developing next-generation therapeutics that address significant challenges in the treatment of serious diseases and our initial focus is on cancer. Our proprietary approach enables us to accelerate and enrich the early phases of the drug discovery pipeline by monitoring multiple dynamic facets of previously inaccessible biology in live cells. 

    We are seeking an energetic, creative and entrepreneurial Software Engineer who will play a key role of Cairn’s Analytics Paris team as one of its foundational members. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in both back- and front-end software development and exposure to machine learning and deep learning methods. The candidate should lead by example and inspire others to relentlessly pursue bold, impactful goals to help unlock new biology and build Cairn Biosciences into a leading drug development company that transforms the lives of patients.

    Key responsibilities:

    • Build infrastructure and software

    • Automate data flows and analyses to develop interactive systems that support and enable the scientific team to make decisions 

    • Develop code for interactive data visualization applications and tools for data analysis 

    • Develop graphical user interface for real-time hardware communication (GPIO/I2C/SPI) of laboratory automation instruments (Python/ C++)

    • Participate actively in decisions about next implementations and the different technical choices associated

    • Promote software development best practices with colleagues 

    Required skills:

    • Master in Computer Science or equivalent and 2+ years of experience 

    • Experience in high-quality software development, including familiarity with at least one relevant programming language (Python, Java, Scala, C++)

    • Experience with database technologies (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL or NoSQL as MongoDB) for creating data pipelines involving a wide range of data types

    • Experience with cloud computing (AWS, GCP or similar)

    • Exceptional communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills that promote a goal-oriented work culture while fostering an environment of technical excellence and productivity in a fast-paced startup environment with clearly defined priorities. 

    • Resourceful, can-do, solutions-oriented individual who is self-motivated to deliver on aggressive goals that support attainment of company technical and corporate milestones

    • Fluent in English

    Desired skills:

    • Experience creating public or internal APIs or user interfaces

    • Familiarity with machine learning methods

  • Research Associate / Senior Research Associate

Cairn’s drug discovery engine addresses the profound unmet need for new tools to decipher cellular complexity and enable scalable discovery of groundbreaking therapies. Our proprietary approach enables us to monitor multiple dynamic facets of previously inaccessible biology in live cells and fast-track the discovery of a pipeline of drugs for a wide range of indications with an initial focus on cancer.

    We are seeking a talented, highly-motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant/Associate who is committed to delivering scalable innovations in quantitative live cell biology as an integral member of a tight-knit multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the ongoing development of Cairn’s next-generation drug discovery platform.

     

    Key responsibilities:

    • Oversee and execute immortalized and iPS cell line maintenance and cell line engineering.

    • Design and optimize cell and molecular biology experimental protocols and establish standard operating procedures.

    • Coordinate lab organization including reagent ordering and preparation, and maintenance of lab equipment and inventories.

    • Ensure accurate documentation of all experimental procedures, data and results; presentation (verbal and written) of findings.

     

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in cell biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, bioengineering or related scientific discipline. 

    • B.S. with 2+ years, or M.S. with 1+ years of relevant experience required. Drug discovery industry experience

           is a strong plus. 

    • Full command of routine mammalian cell culture is required. Experience with cell line engineering procedures strongly preferred. Expertise in iPSC culture and differentiation is desirable.

    • Experience in state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques (e.g. Gibson and Gateway cloning, digital droplet PCR, CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing, RNAseq) is desirable.

    • Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational and thorough documentation skills.

    • Hands-on experience with live cell and/or high-content microscopy is highly desirable.

    • Resourceful, can-do attitude that couples scientific rigor and curiosity with excellent time management skills.

    • Excellent communication and creative problem-solving skills combined with a growth mindset that embraces continuous learning to bolster exceptional performance.

  • Scientist / Senior Scientist - Microfluidics

Cairn’s proprietary drug discovery platform delivers an exclusive view of uncharted routes to new medicines. Our platform visualizes the dynamic, multiscale cellular adaptations that underpin clinical outcomes, generating multidimensional, predictive disease-biology datasets fueling our drug discovery pipeline. Cairn is initially applying this platform to the discovery of next-generation therapeutics to overcome acquired resistance to targeted cancer therapies.

    We are seeking an energetic, creative and enthusiastic Scientist/Senior Scientist who will spearhead the advancement of our proprietary microfluidics device that enables the live-cell assaying component of our platform as part of an integral member of a tight-knit multidisciplinary team. You are a highly-motivated, skillful and adaptable engineer/experimentalist with a demonstrated aptitude in developing robust microfluidic devices and interacting with peer scientists to advance novel experimental approaches to reveal new biology. You lead by example and inspire others to relentlessly pursue bold, impactful goals to ultimately unlock new biology and build Cairn Biosciences into a pioneering drug discovery company that transforms the lives of patients.

     

    Key responsibilities:

    • Plan, execute, and troubleshoot methodical and efficient development of a robust in-house pipeline of microfluidic devices to support experimental goals.

    • Build and maintain custom software, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic systems, and controller element used for operation of microfluidic components.

    • Drive the convergence of microfluidic systems and diverse, rapidly evolving cell-based assay technologies into a scalable, integrated platform to unlock new biology and enable target, drug and biomarker discovery.

    • Collaborate with broader technical and management teams to define technical objectives and deliver live-cell biological/experimental results that enable decision-making for therapeutic discovery programs.

    • Mentor, train, coach and steer junior technical staff and fuel technical team performance.

    • Develop SOPs and present findings to internal/external audiences via presentations, reports, invention disclosures and publications.

     

    Requirements:

    • M.S./Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, physics, or related scientific discipline with an emphasis in microfluidics. 2+ years of professional industry experience would be a strong plus. Experience managing direct reports is preferred.

    • Hands-on experience with polymer microfabrication and chemical micropatterning skills (e.g., SLA 3D printing, hot embossing, injection molding, dry/wet etching, imprint lithography, photolithography, microcontact printing) are required.

    • Demonstrated experience in bridging the interface between micro- and macro-fluidic components and devices (e.g., electrical, mechanical and pneumatic control elements, automated fluidic delivery systems, chip-instrument connections), as well as biological systems (e.g., cell culture), ishighly desirable.

    • Proven skills in programming (e.g., Python, COMSOL, C++) are required; simulation skills are a plus.

    • Experience with microscopy, fluorescence imaging, microfluidic single-cell analyses and particle manipulation strongly preferred.

    • Exceptional communication, critical thinking, scientific rigor, and problem-solving skills that promote a goal-oriented culture while fostering an environment of technical excellence, flexibility and productivity in a fast-paced startup environment.
